Megan Gale must rank as Australia’s most loved celebrity. Not only is this supermodel, actress and brand ambassador stunning, she is also really sweet and down-to-earth… a trait Aussie’s definitely adore. Megan has recently finished filming the new Mad Max movie with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, is about to shoot her latest L’Oreal Paris campaign and has just signed on to a still-secretive movie to be shot soon in Australia. Her career is soaring.
I’m thrilled to have Megan Gale stop by The Global Townhall to share some of her success tips with us.
Gabrielle Reilly: We are dedicated to helping people excel around the world by getting tips from the world’s most successful people. What personal attributes have helped you excel in life?
Megan Gale: I would have to say persistence and determination. There were definitely times when I struggled to get my career off the ground but just having that self-belief and ability to keep getting up and dusting yourself off and trying again and again really paid off.
Gabrielle Reilly: What tips do you have for working in front of the camera?
Megan Gale: I think before you even step in front of the camera you need to be fully aware of what your client wants to achieve and then have an idea on how you are going to make that happen for them. Getting a great rapport happening with the photographer also helps greatly too.
Gabrielle Reilly: What do you do for your skin care regiment?
Megan Gale: I always make sure I thoroughly cleanse and moisturize my skin twice daily. I NEVER go to bed with makeup on! I do truly believe also that the condition of your skin reflects what’s happening internally inside your body, so to ensure that you have healthy, glowing skin I think starts with a healthy, clean and balanced diet plus lots of water for hydration and to flush out toxins.
Gabrielle Reilly: What are your best makeup tips?
Megan Gale: Never overdo it. Pick a feature and try and focus on and highlight it. For example, keeping the amount of makeup on the eyes to a minimum but highlighting the lips with a standout shade such as red or pink is great. But I would never suggest a strong, bright lip shade with heavy eye makeup as it can make you look too overdone.
Gabrielle Reilly: What does your diet look like?
Megan Gale: It’s very healthy and well balanced. I do crave very healthy foods luckily so I eat lots of grains, fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, poultry and red meat and an adequate amount of dairy. I do have a sweet tooth so I treat myself occasionally with some organic ice cream or dark chocolate and I actually try and eat organic as much as possible.
Gabrielle Reilly: How do you stay in shape?
Megan Gale: I choose a mix of activities that I enjoy which makes exercising seem like less of a chore. I change it up with Pilates, yoga, walking, running, light weights, cycling and Xtend Barre Pilates. I don’t do it all at once but I try and listen to my body and how its feeling and choose an exercise option that fits in with how I’m feeling.
Gabrielle Reilly: What is your fashion style? Who are your favorite designers?
Megan Gale: My fashion style changes depending on where I’m going, the weather and how I’m feeling. Generally I try and keep things simple and classic as possible and always comfortable unless it comes to shoes. I do love super high heels although they’re not the most comfortable things to wear. As far as designers go, I love L’Wren Scott, Erdem, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Alex Perry, Willow, Scanlan and Theodore, Bec & Bridge. For shoes I love Chirstian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo and Guiseppe Zanotti.
Gabrielle Reilly: How do you organize your schedule?
Megan Gale: I luckily have a great team that I work with to help manage and co-ordinate everything but it is a constant juggling act!
Gabrielle Reilly: Everyone in the public eye gets criticized, how do you handle it?
Megan Gale: I try and do my best to block out ay harsh criticism but I do have feelings like anybody else and I do get hurt. That said, it does depend on what kind of day you’re having. Sometimes I can laugh things off and ignore them if I have quite a lot going on in my life that’s already keeping my spirits buoyed. But if you’re having a bad day and are already feeling a bit fragile, needless to say any nastiness directed your way is going to make you feel worse, especially if it’ s something that’s not true and quite damaging to your reputation.
Gabrielle Reilly: You are much loved in Australia. How do you think you have kept the love for so long when other celebrities often become not so popular?
Megan Gale: It’s been lovely to have had such support from Australians for such a long period of time. I can’t really explain why there has been this longevity but as a guess I would say that I have worked quite hard to not just keep my career flowing and moving in new directions but also worked hard to keep a connection to the Australian public via various channels too.
Gabrielle Reilly: How was it working on the new Mad Max? Did you have to spend much time away?
Megan Gale: I LOVED it! It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. We shot the film in Namibia, which was a fantastic part of the world that I loved having the opportunity to visit. I was away for 6 weeks and learnt so much on the set – from other actors and the director George Miller but also picked up other skills doing stunt work and working with weapons. It was very cool!
Gabrielle Reilly: What are you currently working on?
Megan Gale: I’m working on my next swimwear collection which will be my 5th and due out next year in July. Next week I’m shooting several new campaigns for L’Oreal Paris and I have just found out I have a role in a film that’s being shot in Australia (although I can’t chat about that just yet!)
Gabrielle Reilly: Where are you from in Perth? Where do you live now?
Megan Gale: Currently I split my time between Melbourne and Sydney in Australia. I did spend the better part of 7 years living in Italy (from 1999 – 2006) which was a great experience to live and work in another country. I do miss being in Perth which is my home town although I do try and get home as much as possible.
